#333333; font-size: 10pt">I am interested in how society disables people irrespective of any impairment they may have. My aim is to identify and reduce societal barriers and encourage all individuals to strive to maintain or regain independent lives. As a qualified social worker, I have enjoyed a range of health and social care work opportunities in general practice, hospital, residential care and community settings, and have gained some understanding of the statutory sector. I wish to enable disabled people to fully participate in community care decision - making processes and understand both their entitlements and their responsibilities. Having been a trustee of a number of organisations of and for disabled people, I actively promote social inclusion and am a strong advocate of a fuller understanding of the social model of disability and the need for attitudinal change.
