The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is conducting an inquiry into disability-related harassment. They have issued a call for evidence and want to hear from anyone who has experienced bullying or harassment. The deadline for giving evidence is Friday 10 September 2010.
The inquiry follows research carried out by the EHRC in 2009 that found disabled people to be at greater risk of experiencing violence than non-disabled people. They also found that "low-level" incidents are widespread and that disabled people restructure their lives to minimize real and perceived risk. The inquiry therefore aims to look at how well public authorities are responding to disability-related harassment.
The EHRC would like to hear from anyone who is deaf or disabled, including those with mental health conditions and long term health conditions, as well as their family, friends and associates. The EHRC website offers several ways in which you can give evidence.
